My contributions of the past were the worst of both worlds. I served everything from Shrimp Creole to Fillet Mignon aboard oil rigs and vessels in the Gulf of Mexico. I was clueless. I would cut plastic soda can holders while leather gloves were stuffed in my pocket and a rabbit's foot hung from my key chain. Had I not seen Whale Wars, who knows what my story may be today.
Whale Wars gave me purpose. The Whale Warrior: Pirate For The Sea gave me a hero. The Cove gave me a mission. The End Of The Line fed me knowledge for ammunition. Sharkwater further enlightened me and fanned the flames. EARTHLINGS changed my life!
I watched a short interview with Ellen DeGeneres wherein she proposed a theory that we actually consume an animal's life essence when we partake of its flesh. This is a reasonably sound concept, im my opinion. I have experienced a similar phenomenon on a number of occasions. I could prepare an entrée in the same manner - from the same recipe - as the chef beside me and the individual who is in the best mood would always receive the most compliments. I firmly believe that energies are transferred in the cooking process. I have always loved cooking with a passion and therefore performed my culinary tasks with love and excitement. There is no better reward than the look on someone's face when they take that first bite of what I put my heart into.
You may have experienced this yourself. Have you ever gone to the same restaurant to have the exact same meal, only to find that it just wasn't as good as before? You've probably had meals that put you on top of the world while others would bring you to an all time low. This isn't magic; it is science. Energy resides in everything. When we eat another living being, the residual energies are transferred to us. The pain, anguish, anxiety and depression that so many people experience nowadays are obviously due to our carnivorous diets.
Energy transfers occur quite often between living beings. Have you ever felt someone staring at the back of your head? Have you ever done or not done something because you were motivated by a feeling, only to find that your feelings were right? Even animals have the ability to sense danger and speak to each other with some sort of telepathy. How else could a flock of birds all change course in mid-air at the exact same second? What really bothers me is the question of how much suffering does an animal have to endure for his emotions to actually remain in his body after he is dead. Worse yet, how desensitized must a person actually become to not be affected?
Have you considered becoming a vegetarian or a vegan and you don't know where to start? Well the last thing you should do is start digging a hole in the ground for all the contents of your deep freezer. I still have a rack of ribs in my freezer and my chihuahua is going to love me even more when I finally get around to serving it to him. I would like to make a couple of suggestions that may or may not work for you but have worked for me. With most humans, any sort of commitment to a change in diet is a difficult process. The problem is that we shoot for the stars with no consideration for all the space in between. We decide that we will go on a diet for a certain period of time or until we achieve a specific amount of weight loss. Some people can do that. I can't. What always happens is that I plan to start my diet on a certain day and I wind up falling off. Guilt is my worst enemy in such situations and when I screw up, what the hell, I may as well have some pie too.
What I suggest is that you take it one meal at a time. Decide prior to eating if you would like to have meat or not. With no commitments to break, there is no reason to beat yourself up for breaking them. At some point, you may realize that you have truly changed your eating habits. The euphoria for doing a job well done is more than enough to fuel your journey even farther. Most importantly, watch the movie EARTHLINGS! Do so at a time when you will have no distractions because you really have to listen to what is being said. Trust me! You will see what I mean. And don't cop-out! Finish the movie. The ending is just as important.
You say you don't have time to watch EARTHLINGS? Guess what! It's right here in front of you. The full length motion picture is free to watch on the screen you are looking at now. All you have to do is Click Right Here!
